Nestled at the southern tip of Ullswater, the small village of Glenridding is a giant in the world of outdoor adventure. It's the primary base for walkers aiming to conquer Helvellyn, England's third-highest peak, and offers breathtaking scenery in every direction, from the shores of England's most beautiful lake to the high fells.
Ullswater Adventures

Glenridding is synonymous with Ullswater. The pier is a hub of activity, where you can hop on an iconic Ullswater Steamer for a scenic cruise to Pooley Bridge or Howtown. This is a perfect way to appreciate the epic landscape from the water.
You can also hire kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards to explore the lake's quiet bays and beaches at your own pace. A short steamer ride or drive away is the magnificent Aira Force waterfall, a must-see National Trust site with enchanting woodland walks.
Hiking Helvellyn & The High Fells

For serious hikers, Glenridding is hallowed ground. It's the traditional starting point for the ascent of Helvellyn, one of the UK's most famous mountains. The most thrilling routes involve scrambling across the knife-edge arêtes of Striding Edge and Swirral Edge – a challenge that requires a good head for heights and appropriate experience.
There are less daunting routes to the summit, as well as countless other spectacular walks in the area, from gentle lakeside strolls to the challenging peaks of St Sunday Crag and the Fairfield Horseshoe.
