Rydal Water

A poetic gem, rich in literary history and natural beauty.

Lying between Ambleside and Grasmere, Rydal Water may be one of the smallest lakes, but it's one of the most beloved. It is inextricably linked with the poet William Wordsworth, who lived for many years at nearby Rydal Mount. A beautiful and fairly level circular walk, a dramatic cave, and stunning scenery make this a must-visit spot.

  • Wordsworth's Seat: Rest at the viewpoint on the western shore, said to be one of the poet's favourite places to sit and contemplate.
