Step-by-Step Guide

1. Start in Hesket Newmarket

Park considerately around the large village green in Hesket Newmarket (CA7 8JG). With the Old Crown pub on your right, walk towards the end of the green and take the road that forks left, signposted Caldbeck.

2. Follow the River Caldew

Follow this quiet lane out of the village. The road soon crosses the River Caldew at Hesket Bridge. Just after the bridge, take the signposted footpath on the left that follows the river downstream.

3. To Haltcliffe Bridge

The path meanders pleasantly through fields with the river on your left. The path will bring you to another road at Haltcliffe Bridge. Cross over the bridge and take the footpath immediately on the right to continue following the river.

4. Arriving in Caldbeck

This final section of path leads you directly into the picturesque village of Caldbeck. You'll emerge near the village duck pond, a perfect place to pause before exploring the village.

5. Explore Caldbeck & Return

Enjoy a drink at the Oddfellows Arms, visit the beautiful St. Kentigern's Church, and browse the craft shops. When you're ready, the return journey is a simple case of retracing your steps back to Hesket Newmarket.
