Times use astronomical formulae for level ground. Surrounding fells will hide the sun earlier and reveal it later — leave a safety margin.

Disclaimer
All times shown by this tool — sunrise, sunset, first and last light, golden hour, blue hour, solar noon, length of day and daylight remaining — are calculated from astronomical formulae for level ground and are provided free of charge for general guidance only, on an "as is" basis, and are approximate.
In mountainous terrain such as the Lake District, surrounding fells, valleys and high ground will commonly hide the sun well before the calculated sunset and reveal it well after the calculated sunrise. Cloud, mist and weather can reduce usable light still further. The times must not be relied upon to judge how long you can safely remain out, and you should always allow a generous safety margin and plan to be off high or exposed ground in good time before dark.
You should always carry an appropriate map and compass, a head torch and spare batteries, suitable equipment and supplies, and have the navigation skills and experience needed before setting out. Use of this tool is entirely at your own risk.

How It Works
Is it really free?
Yes — no account, no sign-up, no app to install. It runs entirely in your browser and works offline once the page has loaded.
How accurate are the times?
They're calculated from astronomical formulae using your location and the date — usually accurate to a minute or two for level ground. In the fells the actual moment the sun disappears behind high ground comes earlier, so always leave yourself a margin.
What is golden hour and blue hour?
Golden hour is the warm, soft light just after sunrise and before sunset — perfect for photos. Blue hour is the cooler twilight just before sunrise and after sunset, when the sun is below the horizon but the sky still glows.
Where is my data stored?
Nowhere on our servers. If you tap "Use my location" the calculation happens entirely in your browser and your position is never sent to us.
