Step-by-Step Guide

1. Starting Point: Theatre by the Lake

Start your walk from the large pay-and-display car park next to the Theatre by the Lake in Keswick. From here, face the lake and you'll see the clear path heading left (south) into the trees.

2. The Lakeshore Path

Follow the wide, well-surfaced path as it winds through woodland, with Derwentwater immediately to your right. There are numerous benches along the way to stop and soak in the views.

3. Reaching Friar's Crag

After a gentle 10-15 minute stroll, the path emerges at the rocky promontory of Friar's Crag. You'll find a bench and the Ruskin Memorial, perfectly positioned to admire the classic view down the lake.

4. The Return Journey

Once you've had your fill of the magnificent scenery, simply turn around and retrace your steps along the same path back to the theatre and the car park.
